What is a return vehicle and how can it help my business?
Backhaul or the return journey service involves hiring lorries and/or vans that have completed a delivery and are about to return to their city of origin.
It involves planning a route based on suppliers who wish to make use of the return space for their cargo, thereby preventing the vehicle from travelling empty.
This operational practice is increasingly being adopted by logistics providers in our country, improving the quality of the service on offer and contributing to the sector’s logistical competitiveness. However, following the current coronavirus health crisis, the use of this service has declined, particularly during the lockdown period, as the restrictions imposed by the authorities dealt a severe blow, especially to long-distance transport.
In our efforts to reinvent EMDIPA in times of crisis, as explained in this TIMOCOM article which you can read here, we are placing emphasis on strengthening return services, as we recognise the advantages of this type of logistics.
Do you know the benefits of booking a return vehicle?
- Fewer journeys.
- Optimises costs for both the collection company and the suppliers.
- Enables supply to a greater number of customers.
- Minimises environmental damage: by improving journey planning, we eliminate empty-run kilometres, thereby reducing the planet’s carbon footprint.
Do you know how much your company could save by making the most of a return journey?
- You save on your logistics chain.
- Savings on fuel and, consequently, on costs.
- You save resources (human and/or material).
- Time savings on deliveries and collections.
At EMDIPA we make our lorries and/or vans available to you, as well as those of our road transport partners who are on their return journey, for both domestic and international shipments.
As they have already completed the initial work for which they were contracted, we offer these vehicles at a much lower price, meaning that both your company and ours benefit mutually from backhauling.
