Just-in-Time Method
In the fast-paced world of express transport, we know that every minute counts. To meet the demands for efficiency and speed, many companies have adopted the Just-in-Time (JIT) method as an innovative approach that optimises the logistics chain and enhances competitiveness.
Origins
The method originated in Japan in the 1950s, when Toyota began using its own production system, the “Toyota Production System”. Over the years, this system was refined and evolved into what we now know as the Just-in-Time method.
JIT is based on the fundamental principle of delivering products and goods at exactly the right time they are needed — neither too early nor too late. This requires meticulous planning and coordination, with every link in the logistics chain synchronised as closely as possible.
What is needed?
First and foremost, communication is key: close relationships are established with suppliers and customers to anticipate their needs and expectations. Technological advances also play a crucial role in this process, enabling real-time traceability and the instant exchange of information.
Efficiency is another key aspect of JIT. Unnecessary waiting times are kept to a minimum, ensuring that shipments move smoothly and without delays at every stage of the process. Route optimisation and the intelligent use of resources also contribute to greater productivity and cost savings.
