Toledo Hospital

One of EMDIPA's most significant success stories was managing all the logistics and freight transport required to supply the new Toledo Hospital. This project was carried out by our Barcelona team.

THE CHALLENGES

  • We handled a huge volume of medical supplies, comprising thousands upon thousands of items. We had to classify them according to the references on the delivery notes in order to organise the equipment required for each floor of the hospital and send it to Toledo in an orderly manner, carefully planning each shipment.
  • We had to check and classify the reference number of every product individually. One of the main difficulties was that not all the goods arrived at the same time, resulting in constant movement within the warehouse
  • Coordinating staff and unloading operations.
  • The biggest challenge: it was the first project we had undertaken to supply an entire hospital in Spain!

TYPES OF TRANSPORT

To successfully complete this major project, we used several types of transport, ranging from full trailer loads for large consignments to box-body vehicles with tail lifts… We collected the goods from distribution centres in Italy, Belgium and Germany and transported them to our Barcelona warehouse, where we sorted and grouped them according to their destination floor and function within the hospital.

TYPES OF GOODS

We transported all kinds of healthcare equipment and supplies found in a hospital, including hospital furniture, stretchers, ward beds, operating tables, visitor chairs, tables, chests of drawers, cupboards, maternity beds, monitors, patient hoists and lifting systems…

ACHIEVEMENTS AND LESSONS LEARNT

  • We learnt about the complexity and importance of supplying an entire hospital, everything involved in providing such a comprehensive service, and the organisation required to bring the hospital into operation floor by floor.
  • Providing the logistics service was a major challenge.
  • Careful handling of the goods and optimisation of transport journeys.
  • We learnt how to make loading operations faster and how to manage all the delivery documentation efficiently.
  • This was extremely delicate cargo: ICU beds have integrated monitors, so the equipment had to be carefully packaged and separated to ensure that it reached the customer without any scratches or damage.

ICU BEDS, Madrid Hospitals.

During lockdown and throughout the pandemic, EMDIPA transported Hillrom ICU beds for COVID-19 patients admitted to various hospitals across the Community of Madrid. Here is a news video showing EMDIPA delivering the ICU beds:
